Keep Digging (And Savor the Moments Along the Way)

by Dr. Tonya Caylor
Jun 12, 2025

Dinner was beautiful. A nice evening, bold flavors, shared stories of challenge & success, and laughter with friends who are in simlar trenches.

The meal came with this quote came tucked in tableware:

“Work. Keep digging your well. Water is there somewhere.”

It stayed with me—not just because it was wise, but because it met me in a season that’s been full of effort. Of showing up. Of planting without certainty of the harvest.

Sometimes the "work" looks like paperwork. Sometimes it’s holding space for someone else’s doubt. And sometimes (thankfully) it’s slowing down enough to taste grilled tomatoes, warm bread, and ice cream dusted with pistachios.

Reflection: What’s keeping you digging right now? And what’s nourishing you while you do?

Inspection corrections. New ideas. The domino effect of one decision making another no longer feasible. And yet, we are making steady, consistent progress. It just doesn’t look like it at first glance. Tha...
A Christmas Epiphany (From the Archives)

We would take the girls to the tree farm and pick out the largest one with near-perfect branches and set it up in the foyer. We'd turn on some Christmas music and commence the decorating. With 2 perfectionist...
Two Kinds of Motivation
I had the chance to host Dr Tyra Fainstad (University of Colorado, Better Together Coaching Founder) for a group coaching session on mindset, and she opened with Self-Determination Theory (SDT). I've loved the topic of SDT since hearing Dr Richard Ryan speak at the IOC Coaching in Leadership and Healthcare Conference in 2021. And Tyra taught us many new connections on SDT as it relates to medic...
