Virtue or Weight

by Dr. Tonya Caylor
Jun 03, 2025

I had a conversation recently with someone who discussed how judgment - when it's our own - feels very virtuous. And yet, it often changes nothing except it is like a weight we bear.

I invite you to experiment with me - find something that evokes a bit of judgment. But, let's not go for the deeply entrenched issues that bring up a lot of indignant righteousness right off the bat. Take something smaller.

Now play with the idea and for a just a moment suspend critical judgment. What's it like to not have an opinion of what they (or you) should or shouldn't do. How does that feel? Now what?

He didn’t sit our daughters down for form...
Acting Out of Character
A common tension came up during a coaching conversation with a brilliant, deeply thoughtful coachee. With a lot of diligent work, she has grown more comfortable being and showing her authentic self rather than holding back or becoming someone different for other people’s comfort. Now she is facing situations in which being heard may require her to present herself and her ideas differently. She ...
