Savory Reflection

Jun 03, 2025

In our hustle and bustle routines, we often forget to slow down and be mindful. On a recent trip, in a culture that approaches food by sitting, relaxing, and taking the time to digest and connect with friends, I was reminded of the importance of slowing down. -- To taste and appreciate the food, time, and company.

I intend, and encourage all of you, to begin really carve out at least a few minutes in order to really be mindful about something. I'm starting with meals. Even if it's just 5-10 minutes, let's think about and appreciate the growing, harvesting, transporting, and purchasing efforts. Savor first with your eyes, anticipating the flavors. Then, chew slowly and let those taste buds bring you joy. Take some deep breaths. Focus on this little sanctuary you've created for yourself, or for your colleagues, or for friends or family. Be grateful. Place your full focus on the meal, the people, and the atmosphere.

Take time to savor these everyday moments.

When he sat down to start, he’d often find himself gathering resources, opening documents, or w...

The CBME pilot participants showed us what it looks like to lead through the mess. They navigated growing pains, limited time and faculty, skeptical colleagues an...
Keep Digging (And Savor the Moments Along the Way)
Dinner was beautiful. A nice evening, bold flavors, shared stories of challenge & success, and laughter with friends who are in simlar trenches. The meal came with this quote came tucked in tableware: “Work. Keep digging your well. Water is there somewhere.” It stayed with me—not just because it was wise, but because it met me in a season that’s been full of effort. Of showing up. Of planting ...
